Bridgette B. Gets Candid About Self-Care: “Take The Time You Need For Yourself.”
It doesn’t matter how rich you are or how dope you are — if you’re not taking care of yourself, it is all for nothing.
Meet published fashion model, lash gawd, and wax connoisseur, Bridgette B. (@bridge.brun). She is the owner of RVA’s Wax + Wink Beauty Bar. Clients seek out her services as a part of their self-care routine, but how is she caring for herself? Let’s find out.
On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest – what would you rate your self-care prioritization?
I would rate it as a 3.5, but I’m working on it to be 5 consistently for the rest of my days.
What does self-care mean to you?
Self-care, to me, means taking the time you need for yourself— whether it’s personal care ( i.e. massages, waxes, manicures, or pedicures), or having alone time with just YOU (i.e. meditating, journaling, or resting). [It’s] just putting you as the priority.
What is your go-to self-care routine?
In my old age (lol), my go-to self-care is getting massaged. These days it’s one of my favorite things to do. My mind is at ease, and I am super relaxed at that moment. Last year, I may have had 4-5 massages. This year, my goal is a minimum of once a month.
Journaling is my other self-care routine. I put everything on paper so I could look back and reflect on my feelings and things going on around me.
Do you have recommendations for other women when it comes to self-care?
My biggest recommendation for my fellow women friends is to remember who you are and that YOU are the priority. A lot of us get caught up and lose ourselves in this thing called life because we put EVERYBODY before ourselves— whether it’s kids, a husband, family, etc. We tend to forget [about ourselves] or just put ourselves on the back burner, which is unacceptable. Schedule once a month, we can start off with once a month, but possibly twice, whether it be a weekend or just the day, to have a self-care service day; unbothered time to yourself to rest write your goals down, etc. Mark it down on a calendar— write it so you can see it and see to it that you accomplish it.
If you could choose one quote to be your life's mantra, what would it be?
“Bet on yourself, tomorrow isn’t promised” and “Never expect you from others by having expectations.”
