The correlation between self-care and success is obvious. The better you take care of yourself, the more productive and clear-minded you will be. According to leadership expert, Michael Hyatt, self-care has “demonstrable, career-enhancing, business-building benefits." So we took it upon ourselves to find a thriving boss babe and get the details of her self-care routine.
Executive business consultant, freelancer, and creator of the luxury bath brand, HBNY Bath Co., Ebony Alicia Bunton has created an avenue for herself by enhancing businesses through partnership and collaboration. She has worked with clients such as AMP Beauty LA and Connect DTLA. This LA-native works hard and looks amazing doing it.
We were able to connect with Ebony to ask her a few questions about self-care and find out what it means to her.
On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest – what would you rate your self-care prioritization?
EAB: I'm the type of person who used to call off work in order to have a mental break, risking it all! So I'd give myself a 5 out of 5 just for the fact that I do not play about seeking peace in all aspects of my life.
What does self-care mean to you?
EAB: My definition of self-care means to consciously and habitually work on oneself spiritual, mental, and physical well-being.
What is your go-to self-care routine?
EAB: Spiritually, I lead with prayer & meditation daily and throughout the day which really grounds me and makes me more confident to intentionally love myself and other people.
Mentally, I practice being a student in life every day. Meaning, accepting that I and no one else knows everything. That helps keep me from disappointment which I've struggled with in the past. I've also implemented more boundaries in my life both personally and professionally. It's helped me and my relationships with others remain honest and healthy and have been life-changing the more I've learned about what my boundaries should look like.
Physically, monitoring what I eat and keeping an active lifestyle have changed my life. But my all-time favorite self-care is taking care of my body through massage, stretching, and skincare.
Do you have recommendations for other women when it comes to self-care?
EAB: I recommend all women to really sit and spend time with themselves to determine what areas in their life they'd want to change and start there. First by working on the internal and then working their way out. I strongly believe practicing and implementing that type of self-love and care every day is essential.
If you could choose one quote to be your life's mantra, what would it be?
EAB: I really don't have a life mantra. And I wish that I did because that seems cool lol. I don't consider myself to be a religious person, but my 'mantra' is more of a long bible verse that I fell in love with within the third book of Proverbs, verses thirteen through eighteen. It gives me confidence and reassures me of my value and efforts to become the woman of my dreams.
"Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding,
for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.
She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.
Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.
Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed. "
